Area of Operation
The Port of Corpus Christi Authority (PCCA) has implemented a robust security infrastructure that includes an extensive network of surveillance cameras, security fencing, and enhanced lighting across 19 public oil docks and five cargo docks. Access control measures, including TWIC readers, are in place at over 39 restricted facilities as defined by the Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA). PCCA’s security operations cover more than 35,000 acres of waterways and all land and water approaches to both public and private facilities regulated under the MTSA in Nueces and San Patricio counties. With jurisdiction over key waterways such as the Corpus Christi Ship Channel, the Inner Harbor, and surrounding channels, the Port of Corpus Christi ensures the safety and security of maritime operations in the region.
Our sworn law enforcement and unsworn security officers and surveillance analyst dispatchers have a long and impressive track record of successful joint operations with all local, state, and federal law enforcement partners, which creates a formidable Homeland Security support structure by both land and water for the Port of Corpus Christi’s seven-country service area.
Marine Units
The Port Corpus Christi Police Department Marine units are responsible for providing proactive marine patrols and enforcing all state laws and tariffs within the jurisdiction of the Port of Corpus Christi. These duties include waterside security for Military out-loads, security escorts for high interest vessels, search and rescue operations, and marine firefighting response.
Response, Action, Partnership
Port PD’s Marine Unit, together with the Refinery Terminal Fire Company (RTFC) and other local first responders, are the Port of Corpus Christi’s first line of response for ship collisions, sinking vessels, HAZMAT spills, and other emergencies within the PCCA area of responsibility. The personnel and equipment fight marine and land fires and respond to other emergencies throughout the Corpus Christi Ship Channel.
