Duties and Responsibilities
Marine Assets is responsible for two equally important missions: Train and Maintain.
- Ensures that all police and firefighting vessels are fully equipped and maintained, guaranteeing they are ready to respond to emergencies around the clock.
- Collaborates with PCCA’s Emergency Management Department to provide briefs and participates in drills with local police and fire response entities.
Train
Marine Assets trains PCCA Police Officers on all three different boat platforms that are currently in operation.
- One 70’ MetalCraft Marine Firestorm (Rescue 1)
- Three 44’ MetalCraft Marine Interceptors (Marine 1, Marine 2 and Marine 3*)
- Two Security Boats (SB1 – 29’ and SB2 – 31’)
Marine Assets trains potential coxswains and engineers, write and conduct boat crew drills and inspect all survival and firefighting gear. Marine Assets also trains Refinery Terminal Fire Company (RTFC) Firefighters to operate on PCCA boats.
Maintain
Marine Assets maintains all boats, as well as its associated equipment: main diesel engines, ship’s service diesel generators, auxiliary pumps, fire pumps, lifesaving gear and navigation equipment. Marine Assets plans long range maintenance items, like dry docking and major engine overhauls.
24/7 Readiness for Maritime Safety and Security
Marine Assets works with the Port Security Department to ensure police and firefighting assets are ready to respond 24/7.
Vessels
- MetalCraft Marine 70’ Firestorm – Rescue 1:
Rescue 1 is a highly capable firefighting vessel, classified as a National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Type II firefighting vessel and a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Type 4 fire boat. It is operated by a specialized crew of two Port Police Officers and three RTFC Firefighters. This unique partnership allows the team to effectively combine diverse skills, ensuring mission success in a wide range of emergency scenarios. - MetalCraft Marine 44’ Interceptors – Marine 1, Marine 2 and Marine 3:
Crewed by three Port Police Officers and are the daily patrol vessel for the Port Police Department, MetalCraft Marine 44’ Interceptor vessels train weekly with United States Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi helicopters in Corpus Christi Bay. *MetalCraft Marine is scheduled to deliver the third Interceptor, Marine 3, during the summer of 2025. - Security Boats – SB1 – 29’ and SB2 – 31’:
Outboard-powered patrol vessels crewed by two Port Police Officers. Originally the primary patrol vessels for the Port Police Department, these boats are still in use today but at a significantly reduced frequency, as the Interceptors now handle most daily patrol operations.
Southside Marine Center
PCCA’s marina serves as the docking site for all its vessels. The facility is expected to be completed by early 2027. When fully functional, the facility will feature a 10,000-gallon diesel fuel tank, an office building with a shop, parts storage and a boat slip equipped with a marine travel lift capable of hauling out all vessels in the fleet.
Marine Assets collaborates with Emergency Management to provide briefs as well as demonstrations to local police and fire response entities.
