Duties and Responsibilities
Marine Assets works under the Port Security Department to ensure police and firefighting assets are ready to respond 24/7. Marine Assets is responsible for two equally important missions: Train and Maintain.
Train
Marine Assets trains PCCA Police Officers on three boat platforms that are currently in operation.
- Two SAFE Boats (SB1 – 29’ and SB2 – 31’)
- Three 44’ MetalCraft Marine Interceptors (Marine 1, Marine 2 and Marine 3)
- One 70’ MetalCraft Marine Firestorm (Rescue 1)
Marine Assets trains potential coxswains and engineers, writes and conducts boat crew drills and inspects all survival and firefighting gear. Marine Assets also trains Refinery Terminal Fire Company (RTFC) Firefighters to operate on PCCA boats.
Maintain
Marine Assets maintains all boats as well as their associated equipment. Marine Assets manages all maintenance items on five boats including the main diesel engines, ship’s service diesel generators, auxiliary pumps, fire pumps, lifesaving gear and navigation equipment.
Assets Maintained
Rescue 1 – 70’ MetalCraft Firestorm
Fire response vessel crewed by five personnel: namely two Port Police Officers and three RTFC Firefighters. This unique team of police and firefighters draws upon their respective skills to accomplish each mission successfully.
Marine 1, Marine 2 and Marine 3 – 44’ MetalCraft Marine Interceptors
Patrol vessels crewed by three Port Police Officers. These vessels conduct daily patrols of the waterway, as well as training with the United States Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi in Corpus Christi Bay.
SB1 – 29’ and SB2 – 31’ – SAFE Boats
Patrol vessels crewed by two Port Police Officers. SAFE Boats are the original patrol vessels for the Port Police Department. These vessels are used at a lesser frequency as Interceptors are relied upon for daily patrols.
Marine Assets collaborates with Emergency Management to provide briefs as well as demonstrations to local police and fire response entities.
