Corpus Christi, TX, USA – The Port of Corpus Christi Commission named new officers and welcomed two new Commissioners at the January Commission meeting. The group returned to the Congressman Solomon P. Ortiz International Center following a year of extensive renovations and upgrades to the venue.

Commissioner Gabe Guerra was named Chairman of the Port Commission, succeeding David P. Engel following the conclusion of his term. Guerra was first appointed to the Port Commission by the Corpus Christi City Council in 2022. Commissioner Wes Hoskins, appointed by the San Patricio County Commissioners Court, was reappointed Vice Chairman, and Commissioner Rajan Ahuja, appointed by the City of Corpus Christi, was named Secretary.

“I am deeply honored by the trust my fellow commissioners have placed in me to serve as Chairman of the Port of Corpus Christi Commission,” said Gabe Guerra, the newly elected Port Commission Chairman. “The Port is a powerful economic engine for the Coastal Bend region, supporting jobs, strengthening local industries and ensuring the long-term resiliency of the communities we serve. I remain committed to stewarding the Port’s continued growth in a way that supports business, opportunity and the future of our region.”

New Port Commissioners Michael Hunter, appointed by the Corpus Christi City Council, and Amanda Torres, appointed by the Nueces County Commissioners Court, took their oaths of office, administered by Nueces County Judge Connie Scott, on January 6 and January 7, respectively. Hunter succeeds former Commission Chairman David P. Engel, while Torres replaces former Port Commissioner Diane Gonzalez.

Hunter, a former Corpus Christi City Council member is a partner at Central Coast Public Affairs, LLC, and nurtures a focus on economic development opportunities for the region.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to bring my service and experience as a member of the Corpus Christi City Council to the Port Commission,” said Michael Hunter, Port of Corpus Christi Commissioner. “I am excited to contribute to this organization in a new and thoughtful way.”

A Corpus Christi native, Torres worked as Assistant District Attorney, as well as Nueces County Justice of the Peace for Precinct 1, Place 1, and Judge of Nueces County Court at Law Number 5, before rejoining Branscomb Law’s litigation group, where she now serves as President and a member of the Board of Directors.

“The Port of Corpus Christi is a critical energy export gateway for the Coastal Bend, the State of Texas and the United States,” said Amanda Torres, Port of Corpus Christi Commissioner. “I am humbled to be a part of the Port Commission’s continuing effort to drive that prosperity home to the communities we represent and serve.”

The Port Commission governs the Port of Corpus Christi Authority and is composed of seven commissioners who serve without pay. Each commissioner serves a three-year staggered term with a limit of up to 12 years.
