Port of Corpus Christi Finishes 2020 with Record Tonnage
The Port of Corpus Christi ended 2020 with record tonnage, mainly attributable to a 65 percent increase in crude oil shipments from 2019. The Port set a new annual tonnage record of 159.7 million tons, a 31 percent increase over 2019, as well as a new monthly record of 15.9 million tons for December, 15 percent higher than December 2019. This performance helped push fourth quarter results to a new quarterly record of 42.2 million tons, surpassing the prior record from Q1-2020.

Congress Passes Landmark Legislation for the Port of Corpus Christi and the Nation
Congress passed the bipartisan Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2020, which provides authority for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to carry out water resource development projects and studies; the legislation also reforms and provides policy direction to the USACE for implementation of its civil works missions including navigation construction projects such as the Corpus Christi Ship Channel Improvement Project.
Port of Corpus Christi Commission Approves Agreement for Offshore Deepwater Port Project
The Port of Corpus Christi Authority Commission approved a lease agreement and related pipeline easement for the Bluewater Texas Terminals, LLC (BWTX) offshore deepwater port project — a 50/50 joint venture between Texas-based Phillips 66 and Trafigura Group Pte. Ltd. This agreement facilitates BWTX’s plans to provide safe and environmentally friendly infrastructure for the increasing exports of responsibly produced U.S. crude oil to the global demand markets that prefer U.S. energy.
