New Collaboration at Port to Serve Growing Global Energy Demand
Jul 20, 2017
Collaboration between the Port of Corpus Christi and Howard Energy Partners is set to bring a new deep-water dock for Suezmax-class oil tankers, extensive storage capacity, and eventual pipeline capacity of at least 90,000 barrels a day to ship refined products to Northern Mexico.
The port is set to spend up to $50 million to build a new dock with loading capacity of 30,000 to 50,000 barrels per hour.
Howard Energy is expected to spend up to $150 million over the next five years to build a facility on the north side of the Corpus Christi Ship Channel within the Inner Harbor at the Port of Corpus Christi. Plans include the design, construction, and operation of a rail terminal, and a petroleum and petroleum products storage facility. Howard Energy Partners intends to connect the facility with its proposed Dos Aguilas pipeline to Monterrey, Mexico.
Port of Corpus Christi Commissioners unanimously approved a long-term lease agreement with Howard Energy Partners at the July 2017 meeting of the port commission.
This partnership will result in the further balancing of U.S. trade while providing energy exports to the international market, especially Mexico.
