Wind Energy significantly disrupts high power prices in Texas

Mar 06, 2017

Energy records show power was in record demand in 2016.  Yet, average power prices were at an all time low.

Shale sourced natural gas has contributed largely to lower energy costs nationwide.  There are other significant energy contributors at work as well.

The rise in wind powered energy, especially in Texas,  lends a hand to exceptionally low power prices.

Port Corpus Christi is the largest port handling wind energy components on the Gulf Coast, and has just posted a banner year for wind.

Port Corpus Christi Executive Director, John LaRue, recently spoke with Liam Denning for a Dallas Morning News story – “In the biggest U.S. electricity market, wind threatens Texas’ independent power producers.”  Click the link to read more on how, as the author put’s it, ‘Wind energy has – blown through Texas’ electricity market.’
