Port of Corpus Christi Hosts Virtual Discussion on the Role of Texas Energy in Restarting the Nation’s Economy
May 11, 2020
Washington, D.C. – The Port of Corpus Christi will host a virtual discussion on “Managing the Critical Importance of Energy in America in a COVID-19 World,” from 9:00 – 11:00 AM EST on May 13, 2020, in partnership with leading trade associations – American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM), the Natural Gas Supply Association (NGSA) and ClearPath.
The event will tap the expertise of political and business leaders to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the energy sector as the country emerges from lockdown. The virtual gathering will feature members of the Texas Delegation, including U.S Senator Ted Cruz, U.S. Senator John Cornyn, Representative Michael Cloud, Representative Henry Cuellar and Representative Lizzie Fletcher.
Energy is a critical catalyst that will rejuvenate the economy as the COVID-19 pandemic subsides and no state will play a bigger role than Texas. The purpose of this event is to discuss the importance of Texas energy preparedness—including ports and energy pipelines—as demand for crude oil grows with people returning to work and global economies seeking high quality and secure energy sources.
“As one of the leading ports for exporting energy in America, we thought it was critical that we begin laying the groundwork to reenergize U.S. business as we move from the management to the recovery stage of the global pandemic,” said Sean Strawbridge, Port of Corpus Christi Chief Executive Officer. “The energy industry must be ready to respond in real time with a plan of action that gets our economy back on track, while managing the safety of our workers and the communities in which we live and work.”
To discuss these vital topics, the first panel will include Texas industry leaders from Cheniere, Buckeye, Moda Midstream, the Texas Oil and Gas Association and the Port of Corpus Christi. Panelists will provide key insights on the implications of COVID-19 on the energy industry and discuss how they have seen the pandemic impact their own companies.
The second panel will feature leaders from key energy organizations and trade associations. They will share a policy perspective on revitalizing the economy once the COVID-19 pandemic subsides. This discussion will focus on how policymakers must move to effectively manage America’s energy supply in a post-COVID-19 world.
