Port of Corpus Christi Honored for Excellence in Financial Reporting

Jan 23, 2024

Corpus Christi, TX, USA – Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to the Port of Corpus Christi for its Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2022.

The report was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a spirit of transparency and full disclosure to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government entity and its management team.

“This recognition is a testament to the commitment of every member of our team who has helped the Port of Corpus Christi fulfill its long-standing promise of financial transparency,” said Cindy Bertolami, Chief Financial Officer for the Port of Corpus Christi. “It is also proof of the high standards to which the Port of Corpus Christi holds itself for the benefit of our customers and the communities we serve.”

This is the 40th consecutive year that the Port of Corpus Christi has been recognized with the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. The award also further cements the Port’s commitment to transparency for the public and industry partners in the Coastal Bend region.

Governmental entities, including navigation districts, are required to compile and issue an annual ACFR that contains a complete set of financial statements reviewed by an independent auditor at the end of each fiscal year. The reports also include findings from that independent auditor on material or significant deficiencies related to the entity’s financial statements or reporting, of which none were found in this most recent ACFR for the Port of Corpus Christi.

“We are grateful to the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada for this award,” said Kent Britton, Chief Executive Officer for the Port of Corpus Christi. “This speaks volumes about the commitment we have as a public agency to keep our customers and stakeholders fully apprised of our financial results and the impact of our operations on the communities we serve.”
