The third annual Mexico Infrastructure Projects Forum in Mexico’s industrial hub, Monterrey, provides opportunity for discussion regarding Mexican energy and infrastructure projects. The two day summit brings industry leaders together to glean insight into present opportunities and future growth for our neighboring nation. In closing this exceptional event, Port Corpus Christi, Commission Chairman, Charles Zahn, presented Port Corpus Christi: A Mexico-Texas Energy Supply Chain Partnership in the Port Corpus Christi Authority Special Session. This session, introduced by Port Corpus Christi CEO, Sean Strawbridge, featured a panel discussion on Port Industry and Midstream services with Linda Hernandez, Sales Director for Chemical and Petroleum, Kansas City Southern Mexico; Michael Moss, VP Business Development, Rangeland Energy; Maria Mejia, Business Development, Howard Energy Mexico; and was moderated by Jorge Canavati, President, J. Canavati & Co.

Mexico is one of the most progressive countries in the world regarding trade. Moreover, Mexico opened its doors to foreign investment when it reformed its constitution to enhance its energy/hydrocarbons sector in 2014. To maintain its competitive advantage on the supply chain, Mexico has prioritized transportation infrastructure creating a robust logistics network. This approach addresses both the benefits of a healthy manufacturing economy and continuance of prosperity in its industrial sector.
Port Corpus Christi affords one of the closest deep-water port connections by way of rail and highway through the industrial corridor connecting through the international crossing at Laredo to Monterrey, Mexico. Direct export trade between Port Corpus Christi and the nation of Mexico continues to achieve staggering growth. Commodities in this trade include all types of petroleum products and derivatives, organic chemicals, grain, iron, and steel.
Port Corpus Christi is supporting development of the new Howard Energy Terminal at the port with infrastructure advancements in trans-loading waterborne petroleum products to rail for direct shipments to Mexico. Howard Energy is underway with construction of its terminal for exporting refined products destined for Mexico markets. The initial phase will utilize liquid bulk dock 3 at the port to discharge barges and ships, and directly load into rail cars. San Jose, Iturbide, and Monterrey will be the first recipients of product from this terminal.
