Port of Corpus Christi on Schedule to Accept 2021 Sponsorship Applications
Oct 01, 2020
Corpus Christi, TX, USA – Through the regional spread of the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent economic downturn, the Port of Corpus Christi remains committed to its community and therefore will not alter plans to open its biannual call for sponsorship applications from Coastal Bend nonprofit organizations.
Nonprofits seeking funding for events that occur between January 1 and June 30, 2021 may submit applications to the Port between October 1 and October 31, 2020. This is another step forward in the Port of Corpus Christi’s mission to continue serving the communities in which it operates through this challenging time.
The Port of Corpus Christi Commission adopted a resolution on April 21, 2020, increasing the Port of Corpus Christi Authority’s Promotion and Development Fund. This action authorized staff to deploy additional financial resources into the community to help non-profits weather this storm of uncertainty. Port leadership understands that providing these much needed funds enables community beneficiaries to fulfill their missions; moreover, this support is a strategic and thoughtful way for the Port to keep dollars local as it reinvests in the community it serves, especially as the region works to recover from the impacts of COVID-19.
“The Port of Corpus Christi has committed more than $3 million to area nonprofits and small businesses in 2020, including $250,000 for the revitalization of the Horace Caldwell Pier in Port Aransas, and $450,000 for small businesses in Nueces and San Patricio counties that have been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Sean Strawbridge, Chief Executive Officer of the Port of Corpus Christi. “These sponsorships support area non-profits that uplift our community, and the Port Authority’s commitment to their viability during these extraordinary times is unwavering.”
Every year, the Port of Corpus Christi opens two defined application periods—one for each half of the current year—intended to offer stakeholders a clear process to sync with their own business planning. The practice also allows the Port to evaluate where its funding will have the greatest impact in the community.
