Corpus Christi a Critical Key as United States Becomes a Net Energy Exporter

Sep 28, 2017

Expansion of the Corpus Christi Ship Channel will ensure the United States remains on track to become a net energy exporter.

“The United States is on track to become a net exporter of its energy production by 2022-the last time the U.S. was a net energy exporter was 1953, says Port Corpus Christi Deputy Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer, Sean Strawbridge in a recent Global Trade Magazine interview.

Port Corpus Christi is the number one exporter of crude oil in the nation.  Expansion of the Corpus Christi Ship Channel recently solidified by a project partnership agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the forward advancement of $32 million in port funds towards the project, will ensure the United States remains on this track.

With the increased depth and width of the Corpus Christi Ship Channel larger vessels will be able to transport crude oil and natural gas products more efficiently, and at competitive rates to foreign markets.
