Apr 13, 2017

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX, USA – The Port of Corpus Christi Authority was called upon to leverage logistics in providing the City of Beeville, Texas with water in a time of need.  Recently, as spring storms have made way through the South Texas Coastal Bend the City of Beeville, Texas lost power to their water treatment systems, and has exhausted its water supply.

Drinking water relief support efforts at the Port of Corpus Christi

The Port of Corpus Christi Authority has provided operational support, warehouse space, and man-power in support of recent area water crises.

With many pallets of bottled water remaining in Port of Corpus Christi warehousing since a recent water issue in the City of Corpus Christi, the port is assisting in the distribution of water to the citizens of Beeville.  Through cooperation between the Cities of Beeville and Corpus Christi, and the Port of Corpus Christi, City of Beeville representatives are set to acquire several pallets of water from storage at the port to distribute to their fellow citizens.

“Our port is deeply rooted with the citizens of our region,” said Charles W. Zahn, Jr. Port of Corpus Christi Commission Chair.  “We are ready and willing to provide support during this and other times of need.”

Numerous pallets of bottled water were acquired by the City of Corpus Christi through an anonymous donation in December of 2016 following an alert issued citywide requiring the discontinuation of tap water use for any purpose for several days.  In support of ongoing emergency management efforts the port provided for the City of Corpus Christi when a solution for storage and distribution became necessary.  The Port of Corpus Christi Authority stepped in providing operational support, warehouse space, and man-power.

The City of Corpus Christi water crisis was soon resolved, and pallets have remained stored at the port as a backup resource should another water event occur such as this one in Bee County.
