Corpus Christi, TX, USA – Anticipating the landfall of Tropical Storm Hanna, the Port of Corpus Christi has increased its Hurricane Readiness Status to Port Condition 2 (Tropical Hazards expected within 24 hours) in accordance with its 2020 Hurricane Readiness Plan. The Port continues to monitor possible impact scenarios for Tropical Storm Hanna in and around the Texas Coastal Bend region.

Tropical Storm warnings are now in effect from Mouth of Rio Grande to San Luis Pass, and flash flood warnings are in effect. Heavy rainfall and flooding will be the primary concern as the system is expected to stall across the area throughout the weekend.

As part of Port Condition 2, Port Police Department and security personnel continue to support the Harbormaster with vessels seeking safe harbor and, in addition, monitor vessels that have been approved to moor at Port facilities. Crews will secure Port facilities/buildings and prioritize emergency and storm related work orders.

The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Captain of the Port Corpus Christi has set Port Condition Yankee for the area of responsibility from the Colorado Locks to the U.S. Mexico border (including the ports of Port Lavaca-Point Comfort, Palacios, Victoria, West Calhoun, Corpus Christi, Port Mansfield, Harlingen, Port Isabel and Brownsville). Under this condition, inbound vessels are restricted. USCG has announced its intention to move to Port Condition Zulu at 10:00pm, Friday, July 24, further restricting all vessel movement and cargo operations.

The Port continues to be fully engaged in general readiness activities in coordination with surrounding communities, industry partners and state and federal agencies. The safety of all Port personnel, stakeholders and the community remains paramount for the Port of Corpus Christi.

While continuing to employ all COVID-19 protocols, the Port is in full-preparedness mode in anticipation of Tropical Storm Hanna’s landfall here in South Texas,” said Sean Strawbridge, Chief Executive Officer for the Port of Corpus Christi.
