Landmark ExxonMobil SABIC project cites deep water port, skilled workforce, natural gas resources in site selection choice

Access to rail, deep water port facilities, an educated workforce, and plentiful natural gas supply led to a decision for ExxonMobil and SABIC executives to select a site in San Patricio County for a joint venture
project. The joint-venture project will result in construction of the world’s largest ethylene plant. It is a $10 Billion project on 1,300 acres in San Patricio county with direct access to the Port of Corpus Christi.
The official announcement was held Wednesday at the Portland, Texas Civic Center with Neil Chapman, President of ExxonMobil, and Yousef Abdullah Al-Benyan, CEO of SABIC.
Project economic impact includes the following:
- 6,000 Jobs during peak construction phase
- $22 Billion in economic gains for the state during construction
- $50 Billion in economic gains for the state during first 6 years
- 3,500 indirect and induced jobs in the state
- 600 new permanent jobs at the site
- $90,000 average annual salary plus benefits
